Another fantastic week of kindergarten has just ended. It was really fun, but at the end Friday, our friend, Daniela, moved back to Spain. We will miss her, but the family is planning to return to Pacific Grove in the fall. Daniela will rejoin us in the first grade.
Our week started off without a computer class. Mrs. Jones was not at school on Monday, so we had the opportunity to learn our dances for the Spring Dance, which will take place on the last day of school from 10-11:30AM. All of you are invited. Please plan to attend! As I said, we worked with the kinder teachers in the Ottertorium. Mr. Williams, Mrs. Guidara, Mrs. Renteria and Ms. Christine really thought we did a great job. We have two different numbers, Kind Tut and Uncle Scrooges Money. Both of them are fun. We will make our costumes next week. We will look good and dance like champions.
Tuesday, we didn’t go to the library for our class either. This time, Ms. Scanlon came to our classroom. We used the over head projector, called Elmo, to draw stories as Ms. Scanlon told them to us. It was really fun. She told us three different stories and we all drew together. We ended up with the drawing of a dinosaur, , and a pig in a mud puddle. Ms. Scanlon reminded us to remind any of the parents that have checked out books from the school library to return them ASAP or right now. And she said, “Thank you.”
On Wednesday, our class went to the fifth grade orchestra and band concert. The orchestra played first. There were lots of violins, violas, cellos and string basses. Those are instruments that we never see in parades. Ms. Christine called them ‘the strings.” They were very cool. The musicians were pretty good. Then it was time for the band to play. Mr. Hoffman is the band director. There were lots of different instruments in the band. We saw trumpets, clarinets, flutes, drums, trombones and a baritone. They all played together well. We enjoyed the whole assembly.
Thursday, Ms. Christine didn’t come to school. We had Mrs. Weber for our teacher. Ms. Christine told us that she and Mrs. Weber were identical twins separated at birth. They are exactly the same – they both are tall, blonde and have really white skin? Okay, Ms. Christine isn’t very tall.
Our Big Buddies walked us to the beach at Lover’s Point on Friday. We walked right pasted Ms. Antonio’s house on Fountain. It is the brown house with the dinosaurs in the windows and on the walls outside. Ms. Christine said that Ms. Antonio has dug up dinosaurs all over the world. It is a very cool place.
Once at the beach, we climbed all over the rocks. We looked at lots of animals and seaweeds in the tide pools. We found lots of limpets, barnacles, anemones, crabs and lots of different kinds of seaweeds. The snails and hermit crabs were stuck onto the dry rocks. We saw animals in the ocean just beyond the shore too. We had Risso’s dolphins swimming past; harbor seals watching us play on the beach; a curious sea lion close by; and oyster catchers calling to us. Those birds make a lot of noise.
We played on the rocks, looked at nature, built sand castles and dug giant holes in the sand. While we played, our parents set up a great picnic lunch for all of us. There were lots of different sandwiches, fruits, pretzels, chips, fritos and a variety of sweet treats to choose from. After lunch, we said good-bye to our parents and we walked back to school with the Big Buddies. It was a lovely day and a great week. Special thanks to the third grade big buddies, Andrea Page, and all the parents, who provided the delicious foods for us all.
Next week, we have the 5th grade melodrama to see on Monday. The all kindergarten field trip at George Washington Park is on Tuesday. Please plan on joining up there and taking your child home from the park. Any child that needs to go to day care after school will walk back with the teachers.
